Jesus Feeds the 5,000
This story can be found in Matthew 14:13-21
Jesus was talking with his disciples when a huge crowd of people came towards them. They came because they had seen Jesus perform many miracles.
Jesus asked a disciple called Philip, "Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?" [Jesus already knew what he was going to do.]
Philip looked at the big crowd and said, "Eight months wages wouldn't cover the bread bill for even a bite each!"
Another disciple, Andrew, noticed a boy with 5 wee loaves and 2 tiny fish but said that 5 buns and 2 sardines would not go far!
Jesus got the crowd to sit down and about 5,000 men plopped down on the grass. Then Jesus thanked God for the 5 loaves of bread and started to hand it out. He did the same with the 2 wee fishes.
Everyone began to pass the food around and, when everyone had eaten enough, Jesus told his disciples to gather in what was left.
And what do you think? The disciples gathered in TWELVE baskets full of bread left over!
