Palm Sunday
This story can be found in John 12:12-16
Crowds and crowds of people were going up to Jerusalem for the great Feast of Passover that was held every year to celebrate Jewish slaves being freed from Egypt in the time of Moses.
When many people heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem they grabbed Palm branches from the trees and ran to meet him.
They were shouting "Hosanna!" and "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!"
The large, noisy crowd were really excited and happy.
They were excited because many believed Jesus was going to get rid of the hated Roman rulers.
Jesus was sitting on a Donkey as he rode in to Jerusalem and Jesus' close friends didn't realise till much later on that EVERYTHING had been described many years before by a Prophet called Zechariah.
He had said that Jerusalem should not be afraid, and should rejoice because...
"See your King is coming, seated on a Donkey's colt."
And that's just what Jesus did!
